Quadra Island Food Bank is operated entirely by volunteers. Those volunteers who work on hamper distribution days arrive at the Food Bank by noon and are usually done by 2.15 pm. We always aim to have enough volunteers so that an individual will only be called upon once a month. Only the volunteers work within the Food Bank building. Customers pick up their items outside. Distribution days are the first and third Wednesdays of each month. There are three volunteer roles. 1. The packers, who build the basic hampers following a list of items to be included for either single persons, couples, or families. 2. Front reception workers, who greet people collecting hampers and register first-time customers. They also add "extra" items to the hampers as requested. Plus they compile a range of "free choice" items on outside tables. 3. Delivery drivers. We need physically fit volunteers with a vehicle large enough to transport goods ordered from the TruValue stores on Quadra to the Food Bank on distribution days. Pick ups are usually at 11 am from the store for drop off at the Food Bank before noon.
